This years Christmas card takes its theme from Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’.

I’ve always liked the look of candy canes, the high gloss finish and the way the colours twist around the shape. They have become much more visible on this side of the Atlantic in latter years. Thankfully though we have not tried to Anglicise their name – sweet walking sticks don’t sound quite so much fun!

A tenuous link between mint candy canes and humbug I know, but I set about modelling the shapes in Cinema 4D. On the finished design the word ‘bah’ reads in the negative space as well as via the cane shapes which I quite pleased with.

The cards were digitally printed by Purely Digital in Derby and finished with a gloss UV varnish to add a little extra zing. The text inside says:

Humbug? No… never!
As Scrooge said: “A merry Christmas to everybody!
A happy New Year to all the world!
Hallo here! Whoop! Hallo!”

The reverse gives a dictionary definition of ‘humbug’ i.e. Pretentious or silly talk or writing. Nonsense; rubbish.

Posted out in bright red envelopes I hope they create a bit of impact on a Creative Director’s desk.

So, as 2011 draws to a close I’d like to follow Scrooge’s final example and wish you a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and healthy New Year. See you in 2012.
