LOROS Walk on the Wildside

19th September 2011

As Lou Reed sang on ‘Transformer’ in 1972 “Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side, said hey honey, take a walk on the wild side”.

My invitation from my friend Julie Hayton to join her on the annual LOROS sponsored walk was not quite as lyrical, but was readily accepted. So, on Sunday 18th September packed up with waterproofs, water, bananas and free snack size Mars Bars we set out with hundreds other fundraisers on the 12 mile Walk on the Wildside through the beautiful Charnwood countryside.

Thankfully the forecast thunderstorms stayed away (can you ever believe a weather presenter?) and we walked in sunshine for most of the time. Jules’ dog Barney came with us and was a pretty good pace setter. We completed the 12 mile route in roughly 3hrs 40mins.

LOROS do an incredible job in their day to day business. The organisation of the sponsored walk was also fantastic with lots of marshalls showing the way, offering encouragement and giving out drinks, fruit and sugary snacks. We both really enjoyed ourselves.

I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me (and Jules) and to date I have managed to raise approx £430 – smashing my original target. I’ll update the final figure when all the pledges come through.
